Emergency A&E Restoration at Newham General Hospital for KRH Contracts Ltd

When flash flooding forced Newham General Hospital to close its A&E department in July 2021, a major incident was declared and patients were diverted to neighbouring hospitals, including Whipps Cross. KRH Contracts Ltd engaged London Drainage Facilities to restore the department overnight. LDF deployed four teams working simultaneously, combining vacuum tanker works, wet vac clearance, and high-pressure drain jetting to clear the flooding and reinstate the underlying drainage. The A&E department reopened and resumed full service the following morning, with LDF requested at the House of Commons later that same day to respond to flooding from the same storm.

  • Four LDF teams deployed simultaneously overnight, combining vacuum tanker works, wet vac clearance, and high-pressure jetting
  • A&E department fully restored and back in normal service by the following morning, with no permanent damage to the department
  • Same storm response led to a same-day emergency callout at the House of Commons, with LDF running both major incidents simultaneously
