Excavation and installation of new drainage system

Client Name: Mitchells & Butlers

Project Location: The Navigation Inn, 4 Wharf Road, Enfield, EN3 4XX

Duration of Project: 2 months

Sector: Hospitality

Service Provided: Excavation and installation of new drainage system

Challenge:

The Navigation Inn’s proximity to the River Lee makes it highly susceptible to flooding, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall. The surrounding area is low-lying, which contributes to the accumulation of surface water and overflow from the river. As a result, the Harvester restaurant regularly floods during downpours, causing extensive damage to the building fabric and interior. These repeated incidents have led to costly closures, damage to stock, and significant loss of sales.

Solution:

To protect the business from repeated flood damage and unplanned closures, we designed and delivered a comprehensive flood defence and drainage system. Our solution included high-capacity drainage channels, backflow prevention measures, and robust underground pipework – all strategically installed to quickly redirect surface water away from the premises.

Works were carefully planned to minimise disruption to trade, with full site restoration and safety measures implemented. The result was a resilient, futureproofed drainage system that supports operational continuity, safeguards revenue, and protects the newly refurbished interiors from further water damage.
