Prevent Blockages With Our Handy Tips

For a smooth, stress-free Christmas, be sure to pay your drains a little extra attention.

Christmas is fast approaching, and with it comes an increased risk of blocked drains. Cooking oils and fat from our favourite festive foods plus wet wipes and other products can all lead to problems. The solution? Take control this Christmas, and schedule a regular Drainage Cleaning Service for extra peace of mind. First though, here are our top tips.

Make guests aware

If you are welcoming guests to your home over the festive period, make sure that they are all aware that certain things cannot be flushed down the toilet or poured down the sink. It can be easy to forget to remind them though, especially if you have a lot of company arriving. A good way to ensure that guests don’t forget is to put signs by your sink and in any bathrooms. Whether it’s a message artfully written on a chalkboard or a simple paper printout, these reminders will help guests to remember when and when not to flush or pour.

Keep your cool in the kitchen

Christmas isn’t Christmas without a lot of delicious food, and that means that people are spending a lot of time in the kitchen this December. Oil and fats are key ingredients in some of the most beloved festive recipes – but those ingredients can also wreak havoc on your drains. So make disposing of leftover cooking oil and other such ingredients correctly as big a part of your cooking routine as, say, washing your hands. Making sure that everyone lending a hand in the kitchen knows that oil goes in the bin, not down the sink, will help to keep your drains clear.

Provide waste disposal

Sometimes, embarrassment can cause your guests to flush things down the toilet that they shouldn’t. One of the easiest ways to ensure that they don’t do this is to make sure that there is a bin in every bathroom and in other rooms throughout your home. So if a guest wants to discreetly dispose of some uneaten food or items such as wet wipes or sanitary products, they will be able to do so without having to ask you. Anything harmful will stay out of your drains, and you’ll be able to spare your guests’ blushes!

Schedule regular maintenance

If you want total peace of mind, then we do recommend investing in a drain maintenance plan. We have worked with a large number of clients all over London, and would be only too happy to take care of your drains. Regular maintenance ensures that any deposits that could lead to blockages are cleared away, and that your pipes remain in good working condition for as long as possible. We are also on hand to provide emergency drain repairs and to unblock drains. So if you do suffer a drainage mishap this winter, we’re here to help!

Here’s to a brilliant Christmas!

Whether you’re planning a month of huge celebrations or enjoying a low-key Christmas Day with family and friends, taking care of your drains this December will ensure that no unpleasant surprises ruin what promises to be a very special time of year. Merry Christmas from the London Drainage team!
