Sewers in Lytham are being replaced by United Utilities after the town suffered a spate of flooding incidents over the past few years.

Work started on the sewer upgrade last November but the latest phase of works, which began on Monday, has seen Norfolk Road closed in both directions to traffic while the new pipes are installed. The works will cost in excess of £850,000 and the latest phase will take three weeks to complete. During which time the sewers will be replaced between the junction of Bellingham Road and the junction of Parkview Road.

The project co-ordinator for the scheme Mark Clinton stated:

“Seeing your property flooded by sewage is an awful experience so I am delighted that we are able to press ahead with this scheme for Lytham.

“Unfortunately there is no way of carrying out work on this scale without causing some inconvenience for local people. However, by working with other agencies and timing our most disruptive work around local residents we hope to keep this to a minimum.

“Everyone agrees that this work is important. Flooding from this sewer pipe has been a major concern for people in this part of Lytham in recent years and United Utilities is committed to doing everything possible to reduce the problem, and protect properties for the long term.”
