Three excellent tips to tackle a clogged sink
Friday, May 20th, 2011Drain cleaning is something everyone wants to leave for another time as it is a messy and tiring experience. This situation can be completely avoided if one carries out regular drain maintenance. There are times, when even after doing all of this the sink gets clogged. Here are some great tips that will help you get rid of that block.
Tip 1- Use the plunger
This is the first option you should choose. You need to take the old wet fabric and put it in the overflow pipe if you are working on a bathroom sink. Now, the plunger has to be placed on the mouth of the drain and pulled in an upward motion. This will clear the drain. If this is not giving you good results and you feel the clog is not clear you can move to the next step.
Tip 2 – Use a chemical drain cleaning solution
In case the plunger is not as effective, make use of a chemical drain cleaning solution. The right directions for using the drain cleaning solution are given on the back of the container. Then you need to let it settle and then flush it with hot water.
Tip 3 – Use a plumber’s snake
If both these techniques do not unblock the drain you will have to use a plumber’s snake. Remove the clean out plug or the screws using a wrench and put a bucket as you need to collect any leftover water in it. Now, you will have to put the snake through the drain opening and take out water that is clogging the drain. Repeat this process as many times as needed and rinse the drain with hot water.
