Detecting and tackling a blocked drain
Saturday, March 20th, 2010Detecting that you have a blocked drain is not difficult. The signs that there is a problem with your drainage system are fairly clear.
For a start, you will normally experience an unpleasant smell coming from the inspection chamber. The blockage could be a fairly simple one to clear or it might be something more serious. If it is a serious blockage, you may experience an overflow of sewage from under the cover of an inspection chamber. Of course, as well as this, you will also see that your drains are a little sluggish.
So it’s not difficult to detect a blocked drain. But it can be very difficult to unblock it and for this, it is highly recommended that you call in the experts.
Blockages can be caused by a number of things. For example, it might be that hair, food or tree roots are causing the problem. Perhaps some nappies that were flushed down the toilet or some grease that was poured down the sink are adding to the problem.
Usually, an expert carrying out a drain maintenance job will use a high pressure jetting machine to clear the problem. The drains are then flushed through in order to remove all the debris and to leave completely free pipes.
