Dealing with a blocked drain

Friday, March 19th, 2010

If you’ve got a blocked drain, you will know that it’s no good trying to see into it to find out what the cause is. And you can’t poke around with a long stick either.

A blocked drain needs the attention of a specialist; someone who has the knowledge and the equipment to deal with the cause of the problem and ensure that it does not come back.

There are so many different reasons for blockages occurring in drains. Blocked drains can be caused by unsuitable objects being flushed down the toilet, fat or grease being poured down the sink and even tree roots growing into the pipes.

Usually, a drain maintenance engineer will use a high pressure water jet to get rid of the debris in the drain and to hopefully solve the problem. Once this is done, they may carry out a CCTV survey. These involve a small camera being inserted into the pipes so that the engineer can see right into the pipes to see what is causing the problem and whether it is likely to occur again.

After a CCTV survey, you can receive a full report of the results to help you to continue with effective drain maintenance in the future.
