Repair drainage problems without the need for digging
Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010If you have a problem with a drainage pipe, you don’t initially need to be overly worried that the pipe will need to be dug up and replaced completely. Drain maintenance companies can now use a polyester resin liner or an epoxy flexi line to repair the damage to the pipe in situ. This can mean no messy repair and no long wait to have the problem fixed.
Polyester resin liners
If a long length of pipe is damaged, a polyester resin liner can be used to repair this length of pipe. In fact, for pipes that are between 10cm and 15cm in diameter, liner lengths of up to 80 metres can be used in one section. The liner is impregnated with a resin compound and pushed into the damaged pipe. The liner is then inflated into position and left to cure before the pipe can be returned to service.
Epoxy Flexi liners
You might be wondering what happens if the pipe has been damaged due to earth movement and so is now slightly deviated? A deviated pipe can be repaired using an epoxy flexi line that can easily traverse bends and mould to the exact contours or the host pipe surface. The resin impregnated sock is actually blown into the host pipe at around 1 bar of pressure until it reaches the damaged section. When the resin sets the pipe can be reused and hence a costly excavation can be avoided.
