How to avoid blocked drains
Friday, December 25th, 2009Keeping your drains clear and unblocked is an essential household task that many people don’t think about until it’s too late.
Drain blockages can be a major problem and can even be a heath and hygiene hazard. However, in order to make sure that your drains don’t get blocked there are a few things you should avoid doing.
• Do not rinse food down the sink unless you have an integrated waste disposal unit. Pasta shells, butter, oil and vegetable peelings can form a blockage in your drain pipe- particularly between the outside drains and sink. Mixing water with food can make it sticky and more likely to cling onto the sides of the pipe.
• Grease of any type, cold or hot, can cling to the inner layer of your drain pipes and cause blockages.
• Grease thickens quite quickly when it’s exposed to the cool pipes beneath the sink. Due to this, grease should be hardened and cooled in an air tight container and then disposed of in a bin.
• Only washing up liquid that is specially designed for sink use should be used.
When people attempt to clean drains on their own, blockages can get even worse, which is why it’s important to enlist the services of a London drain cleaning company.
