CCTV surveys help when unblocking drains

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

If there is a problem in your drainage system, you may need to have a complete examination of your drains carried out via a CCTV survey.

CCTV surveys are one of the most advanced ways to find out about the drainage conditions. Drains are placed underground and hidden from view making it hard for accurate diagnosis. CCTV cameras are used to view the exact condition of the drain. After knowing the nature of drain, it becomes easy to use the best solution to fix it.

CCTV survey – the technology

State-of-the-art camera technology is used and it allows the operator to know the conditions inside the drains, sewers or pipes. The cameras are propelled through the pipe and this works by using a semi-rigid rod. The camera remains upright and tracks the distance travelled. The findings are simultaneously displayed on the screen and if required the operator can also record onto a VHS format which helps if they need to view it for future reference.

This process is quick in identifying the problem, which makes it cost effective for maintenance. CCTV surveys are also used when you are purchasing a house, as it helps you to know that the sewers are maintained properly or not.

In the past, it was very difficult to clear drains and sometimes driveways were dug up and gardens destroyed. A lot of energy and time was spent to find out the problem. Thus, now with the help of CCTV surveys, it has become very easy to diagnose problems and to solve them as soon as possible.
