Carnoustie sewer replacement scheme

Monday, February 14th, 2011

Drain maintenance engineers start work today on the replacement of a sewer system in Carnoustie.
Work on the sewer, in the famous golfing town, is expected to take three weeks to complete and will be undertaken by Scottish Water. The firm needs to upgrade the sewer system in the town to bring it up to current EU standards.

The works will start on Barry Road to its junction with Gibson Street and will gradually move as the excavation continues through Westfield Place and Thomas Street.

Scottish Water sent a letter to local residents who live on the affected James Street which stated:

“When work is being carried out in each section it will be necessary to close that section of James Street. Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout. There will be local traffic management / diversions in place for the duration of the work and we will make all reasonable efforts to minimise the impact of this.

“Although you will be able to use taps and flush toilets as normal, there will be times where we will ask you to minimise use. You will be notified of this.”

Most of the work will take place during the working week, between the hours of 8am and 5pm, however some weekend work may be required.
