Descaling

Commonly a blockage will be cleared utilising high pressure water jetting machinery or rotating coring plant. Once relieved, engineers have a brief to check – What caused the problem.

When a technician from LDF reports a drainage system is either soiled or scaled, the common course of action is to descale the relevant section of drainage , effectively removing all rough edges which contribute towards disruptive blockages.
The correct way to clean a drainage system would be to utilise one of our specially manufactured electro-mechanical de-scaling machines. The machine is based on a rotating drum filled with a thick inner core cable which has a scale cutting head attached, equal to the size of the pipe to be cleaned.

Whilst the drum is rotating the cable is slowly feed into the scaled/soiled pipe, the cutting head slowly scrapes the pipe removing deposits, leaving a smooth, scale free pipe.

Once the scale has been loosened from the pipe walls, we then use either a proving disc to push the scale through to an access chamber where the scale can be manually removed, or high pressure water jet to retrieve larger pieces.

Following completion of a full descale, LDF will normally issue a comprehensive 6 month guarantee, with a recommendation to have 6 monthly checks/services thereafter to prevent scale re-forming.

If roots are found to be he cause of blockage then a water propelled cutter can be used to slowly trim back root intrusion restoring bore back to full capacity.
